The New England Patriots will rely on another rookie quarterback this season.

With Mac Jones‘ return remaining indefinite, the Patriots will likely retain Bailey Zappe as their starting play-caller.

The rookie from Western Kentucky won his first two starts against the Detroit Lions and Cleveland Browns.

But aside from helping the Patriots return to an even record, he is also having an edge against Jones.

NFL insider Dov Kleiman shared the statistics of Jones and Zappe this season.

Zappe won both of his starts, while Jones only has one victory out of three games.

The rookie also leads in completion percentage at 72.9.

Meanwhile, Jones is at 66 percent.

Zappe also has four touchdowns compared to one interception, while Jones has two touchdown passes and five interceptions.

The passer rating also goes in favor of Zappe, 111.4-76.2.

There’s no word yet on who the starting quarterback for the Patriots will be in Week 7 when they face the Chicago Bears.

However, the safe money goes to Zappe given Jones’ condition.

Same Storyline For Jones And Zappe

There are similarities in the NFL journeys of both men.

Both Zappe and Jones were not part of the top prospects at their position during their respective drafts.

Meanwhile, they were both selected without the need for the Patriots to adjust their draft stock.

New England took Zappe in the fourth round, while Jones fell to the Patriots in the first round.

The Patriots opted to stay at their draft pick and were still able to land the player they want.

In that case, can Zappe lead the Patriots to the playoffs if they stick to him at quarterback.
