Fatality in Wyoming County, Pa.
An unidentified person was killed in a two-vehicle crash on state Route 29 in Eaton Township in Wyoming County, Pennsylvania, at approximately 2:45 p.m. on Oct. 11, 2019. Mere minutes after the crash, first responders worked on the vehicles, as Triton Hose Company, state police, and other emergency crews raced to the scene. No other information was available Friday evening.
(Update 10-12-19): A press release issued by the state police at Tunkhannock reports that Leland J. Cook, 66, of Tunkhannock, Pa., is the person who died in the accident.
Police reported that Cook was driving a 1998 Volkswagen Jetta south on state Route 29 on Friday around 1:37 p.m. Heading north at the same time was a 2015 Hyundai Santa Fe operated by Bianca M. Rubino, 30, of Harveys Lake, Pa.
The report indicated that the Hyundai crossed over the double yellow line of the road about 819 feet south of Church Road, striking the Volkswagen head-on in the process.
Police said that Cook was not wearing his seatbelt when the accident occurred, and died as a result of fatal injuries he suffered as a result of the crash. Rubino was wear her seatbelt when the collision occurred, and suffered suspected minor injuries. Rubino was evaluated at the scene by EMS, but was not transported.
