Friday Night Frenzy (Week 8, 2022)

CHEYENNE, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) – The final week of the high school football regular season concluded Friday. Central put on an impressive performance against Rock Springs in a 45-7 victory. The Tigers scored on their opening drive, but the Indians defense shut them down the rest of the way– punctuated by back-to-back pick sixes in the second half. Central locked down the #4 seed in the playoffs with the win, and Rock Springs will be the #7 seed.

One of the most impactful games of the Friday slate was Laramie versus South. It had the potential for the Plainsmen to play themselves in or out of the postseason. The first half was a struggle for both teams, as Laramie’s 6-0 lead didn’t come with much momentum for either squad. In the end, the Plainsmen rallied to take the victory 21-0 and locked up the #8 seed for next week.

Who did Laramie keep from entering the fold? Well, the Kelly Walsh Trojans entered Friday on the bubble as well, and needed a Laramie loss to extend their chances. They also would’ve needed a win, something the East Thunderbirds weren’t ready to give up. The T-Birds offense continued to click, scoring 49 points en route to another victory on the year. This makes East the #2 seed for the upcoming week.

The Oil City saw a top five matchup tonight as well, but the game was not as close as the matchup on paper. Natrona County thumped Thunder Basin 56-14; the Mustangs opened the game with 21 straight points, and closed the game scoring 28 unanswered. The win secures Natrona the #3 seed entering the postseason, and the Bolts will have the #5 seed.
