CHEYENNE, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) – A single illegal act results in the death of an entire Wyoming fishery.

The Wyoming Game and Fish Department recently discovered that illegally introduced Yellow Perch at Saratoga Lake.

As a result, they will need to treat the lake with Rotenone to kill the species so that they don’t move into the Greater North Platte drainage system.

As a result, the Wyoming Game and Fish Department has lifted the Creel possession limits, at the lake.

“That means that you can keep as many fish as you catch there. But you do have to keep them clean them and take care of the meat, but these are all fish you can eat, like trout,” said Sara DiRienzo, Public Information Officer- Wyoming Game and Fish Department.

All are encouraged to fully use this opportunity before the lake is closed and treated.

The rules will be up for 120 days and finish on October 26th.

Supply Chain Issues

Supply chain issues have touched everything from home improvement, real estate costs, and food but now hunting?

Due to global supply chain issues, the Wyoming Game and Fish Department cannot offer printed, mailed copies of the 2022 Big Game regulations guide.

Hunters and Anglers can download the regulations directly from the department’s website.

You can download guides specific to your desired species in several different formats.

“You can download them by species whether thats deer, elk or antelope or the full three together. You can save then to any mobil device or you’re able to print them to your house as well,” said DiRienzo.

Wyoming Wildlife Task Force Meeting update

If you are a hunter who has been hoping for better odds of getting a license, you may have just gotten your wish.

The Wyoming Wildlife Task Force finished their meeting on Thursday.

The task force recommended reducing the Type 1 Prong Horned licenses to one per hunter.

This recommendation will now move forward to the Wyoming Legislature for consideration.

“So the reason the Task Force recommended reducing the number of licenses an individual can hold, is to broaden opportunity for more hunters to have a chance to draw a Type 1 license to hunt pronghorn,” said DiRienzo

The Wildlife Task Force is an 18-person committee designated by the Governor to examine issues related to wildlife, hunters and anglers that may need new policy or legislation changes.
