CASPER, Wyo. — The Wyoming Game and Fish Department will be hosting an “Inspire a Kid” event ahead of the Wyoming Cowboys’ Oct. 22 football game against the Utah State University Aggies. Kickoff for the game is set for 7:45 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 22 at War Memorial Stadium in Laramie.

The pre-game Game and Fish event will take place in the University of Wyoming’s Indoor Practice Facility. Game and Fish staff will facilitate opportunities for kids to learn hunting and fishing skills. Activities will include how to safely use an air rifle, a hunter safety trail, how to identify wildlife, how to discover new places to hunt and fish in Wyoming, and more.

The event also gives kids the chance to talk with biologists and game wardens about topics like chronic wasting disease, hunter safety and aquatic invasive species.

“This Inspire a Kid event gives Wyoming youth the opportunity to learn about the state’s wildlife with folks who dedicate their lives to conservation and serving the public,” said Brian Nesvik, Game and Fish director. “People who work at Game and Fish love Wyoming, the outdoors and wildlife. And if we can inspire kids to do those things, Wyoming’s conservation future will be bright.

“The chance to meet a member of Game and Fish can change a kid’s life. Today there are a number of diverse jobs with the department that we want youth to aspire to fill.”

People can also use the hashtag #fieldgoals when posting outdoor photos to Facebook and Instagram and tag Game and Fish. If people do so ahead of the Pokes game versus Utah State, their images can be included in a video played on the big screen during the game, Game and Fish said.
