Applications open to students for Hanover Youth Service Council

HANOVER COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — Middle and high school students who are looking to positively impact their community can now apply for the Hanover Youth Service Council (HYSC).

The organization is youth-led and countywide, available for students in eighth through 11th grade who live or attend school in Hanover. Students enrolled in public and private schools, as well as home-school programs, are eligible.

Members attend monthly meetings to plan, as well as take part in service projects, community events and activities to build leadership skills.

“In addition to volunteering, HYSC gives students a voice in their community,” said Morgan Lindsay, Hanover’s Youth Services specialist, in a press release. “They learn how to identify needs, work together on solutions and develop leadership skills that will serve them long after high school.”

Applicants must send in a signed copy of the HYSC Bylaws, a completed application form and one letter of recommendation. All materials are due by 5 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 17.

Those with questions are asked to contact Lindsay via email at mtlindsay@hanovercounty.gov or via phone at 804-365-4180.
