CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — Following Governor Glenn Youngkin’s issuance of Executive Order 33 to reduce or ban the use of cell phones in public schools, the Virginia Department of Education will hold a public conversation session in Chesterfield for residents to share their thoughts.
The order, which was issued on July 9, directs the department to collaborate with parents, students, teachers and school leaders to develop policies and procedures that limit or eliminate the use of cell phones during instructional time.
According to the department, school boards will establish local cell phone-free education policies and procedures before the end of this year.
Chesterfield residents can make their voices heard on the topic at a conversation session from 4 to 5:30 p.m. on Aug. 6 at Chesterfield County Public Schools Career and Technical Center.
For conversation sessions in other localities, visit the department’s website.
