Chesterfield caretaker for elderly man indicted with felony murder in connection to his death



CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — A caretaker for an elderly man has been indicted with felony murder in connection with the man’s death in December of 2023.

In October of 2023, officers with the Chesterfield County Police Department received a referral from Adult Protective Services regarding a man, identified as 78-year-old Henry T. Ransom Jr., who had been taken to an area hospital and reportedly showed obvious signs of neglect.

Ransom died in the hospital in December of 2023, according to police.

On Dec. 11 of 2023, officers obtained a warrant for 64-year-old Theodore K. Brewer for neglect of a vulnerable adult in connection with Ransom’s death. Police said Brewer lived with Ransom and was his caretaker.

Brewer was found and arrested on Jan. 16, 2024.

On Monday, May 20, following further investigation, Brewer was indicted with felony murder and felony abuse and neglect of a vulnerable adult in connection with Ransom’s death. Brewer was arrested on Wednesday, May 22 and is being held at Riverside Regional Jail without bond.
