HENRICO COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — One colorful parrot from the Glen Allen area of Henrico County is in the running for the wackiest pet name.
Magic Nugget is in the running in the macaw category. Other exotic categories include guinea pig, snake, tortoise, mini pug, tegu lizard, ferret and rabbit.
The contest is run by Nationwide and the public can vote for a winner in each category until Friday, April 12.
The top cat, dog and exotic pet names will be announced on Wednesday, April 17.
Magic’s owner, Ally, described the moment she knew what to name him.
“I wanted him to be a magic bird and could not figure out what to name him,” Ally said. “He was a magical bird, and I fell in love. So, I [decided] his name [was] going to be Magic Nugget.”
She continued to say, “I have to say, since I [got] him, he has been Magic in my life.”
Ally described Magic Nugget as a friendly macaw who loves to talk and sing. He’s also pretty quirky.
“He does not want to play with toys,” she said. “He always wants to play with the TV remote control or mess with my chargers.”
