Many movies and TV shows live or die based on their memeability – and Netflix knows this too well. For example, the dance scene from Wednesday has over 70 million views on YouTube alone. But Netflix has its own way to create and share clips.
It’s called Moments and was introduced last year – except it was more of a bookmark feature. Today, the company is updating it to allow users to set both a start and an end point, essentially creating a short clip. That’s a lot more useful for sharing concrete moments (which may or may not go viral).
Releasing it now is no coincidence – part 2 of the second season of Wednesday drops today. And it has a battle on its hands since, apparently, the song “Soda Pop” from KPop Demon Hunters has become the most popular Moment on Netflix.
You can create Moments using the mobile app (be it Android or Apple, phone or tablet). Hit the Clip button to set the start point, pick an end point and save. You will find the Moment in the My Netflix tab and you can rewatch it as many times as you want – and more importantly, you can share it with others.
There is a major limitation, however. Moments can only be viewed by people who are subscribed to Netflix.
