'Portals' exhibition on display in Richmond's Shockoe Bottom for Black History Month

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — A community-based exhibition is on display in Richmond’s Shockoe Bottom area in honor of Black History Month.

According to the Black History Museum and Cultural Center of Virginia, an exhibition titled “Portals” is on display in Richmond’s Shockoe Bottom area, featuring large-scale, historic photographs that depict African Americans from the early 1800s to the 1980s.

The museum said the images provide a glimpse into the daily lives of Black Virginians in the context of African Americans and Labor, which is the 2025 Black History Month theme of the Association for the Study of African American Life and History.

The interactive project will run through the end of February, according to the museum.

For more information about the project and the locations for the exhibition, visit the Black History Museum and Cultural Center of Virginia’s website.
