More On The Los Angeles DA’s Resentencing Decision & The Reaction Of Erik Menendez’s Wife, Tammy, & Stepdaughter, Talia

As The Shade Room previously reported, Gascón revealed his decision on October 14 at a press conference in Los Angeles, California. At the event, Gascón explained that he believes the brothers have “paid their debt to society,” having served over 30 years in prison.

To note, Erik and Lyle Menendez were found to have murdered their parents in 1989 and were sentenced to life in prison in the late 90s. Amid multiple trials, questions loomed about the brothers’ allegations of being sexually abused by their parents, Jose and Kitty Menendez. And recently, Gascón’s office received evidence that appeared to corroborate their claims.

Per Newsweek, if the brothers are resentenced, a court could “impose a 50-year-to-life sentence for their murder,” and Erik and Lyle Menendez could “be eligible for parole immediately if the judge approves” based on time served.

According to Newsweek, Erik Menendez’s wife, Tammy Menendez, and stepdaughter, Talia Menendez, were present at the recent press conference. Subsequently, Tammy took to X to share a statement about Gascón’s decision.

“Good morning, Yesterday was a difficult and emotional day. I am Grateful to DA Gascon for his courage to seek re-sentencing for Erik, I am naturally disappointed he did not go further and act on his own belief that Erik and Lyle have served enough time in prison,” she wrote.

Meanwhile, Talia reportedly took to Instagram.

“I firmly believe my father deserves to come home now, and I’m holding on to hope that the resentencing Judge will agree when making the resentencing decision. I refuse to give up hope,” Talia reportedly wrote, per Newsweek. “Sharing this moment with my mother and extended family on my father’s side was truly special. We spent hours talking, exchanging stories, and strengthening the bond we share. We stand for Erik’s and Lyle’s freedom, and I could not be more grateful for the unity and support we have together.”

According to the outlet, it remains unclear whether Lyle’s wife, Rebecca Sneed, was present at the press conference.

The Reaction From The Menendez Brothers’ Lawyer & What Reportedly Happens Next

According to PEOPLE, a Los Angeles County Superior Court judge can now approve or deny Gascón’s resentencing recommendation. Additionally, the process could reportedly take at least 30-45 days.

If a judge approves resentencing, the outlet notes that the matter could then go before a parole board.

Per Newsweek, Mark Geragos, an attorney for the Menendez brothers, believes they could be home “before Thanksgiving.”
