RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — The 2024 BLK RVA Community Awards was held last Friday at Richmond’s historic Hippodrome Theater.
On Friday, Aug. 23, the 2024 BLK RVA Community Awards took place at the Hippodrome Theater, hosted by radio personality Clovia Lawrenece “Miss Community.”
For the last five years, the BLK RVA Community Awards has honored trailblazing people, businesses and initiatives that have helped contribute to Black culture and tourism in the Richmond region.
Residents had the opportunity to vote for finalists for the Community Impact Awards to be presented on ceremony night.
The five winners were selected for Community Impact Awards were:
- Afrikana Independent Film Festival — Cultural Enrichment Award
- Elegba Folklore Society — Cultural Preservation Award
- Richmond Black Restaurant Experience — Culinary Heritage Award
- RVA Explore Tour — Rising Community Impact Award
- Randy Cooper, former CEO of Richmond Heritage Federal Credit Union and Shirley Cooper, former CEO of Credit Union of Richmond — Rooted Community Impact Award
BLK RVA is an initiative of Richmond Region Tourism that highlights the experience of Black culture in Richmond.
