Ghosh will defend Das on January 2 and will move the Supreme Court in Dhaka if needed. When no lawyer was ready to defend Das, Ghosh moved Chattogram court to get the bail hearing preponed. But he was prevented from moving a bail petition.
“If there is a predicament, we will move the Supreme Court this time. Iskcon is likely to hire more advocates for the monk as well,” Ghosh told ET .
Asked why he was prevented from moving a bail petition in December, the advocate said, “I have fought in the Supreme Court for more than 35 years and have rights to fight in the lower courts as well. As per law, ‘vakalatnama’ (power of attorney) is not needed in any court in Bangladesh and I am authorised to practice as per law. Despite that I was stopped.” Ghosh claimed that “the arrest of Chinmoy Krishna Das is a gross violation of human rights”.
Ghosh told ET, “Some are angry because I am fighting for Chinmay Prabhhu. I am fighting for a good cause and there is nothing to fear. I am a Mukti Joddha. I don’t follow any political party, neither BNP nor Awami League, but in Bangladesh people are alleging that I am working as an agent of Iskcon.”
The Bangladeshi advocate is undergoing treatment for orthopaedic and other medical ailments at Kalyani AIIMS. Amid the ongoing turmoil in Bangladesh, a priest of Kali temple in Bangladesh’s Nator was found dead in a mysterious situation on Saturday.
