More Details On Hurricane Beryl

AP News reports that Jamaica was impacted by the powerful Category 4 storm, resulting in the deaths of at least seven people. The outlet also reported that Jamaica’s Prime Minister, Andrew Holness, stated nearly 500 people were placed in shelters.

By the evening of July 3, Holness clarified that the island had not experienced the worst-case scenario.

“We can do as much as we can do, as humanly possible, and we leave the rest in the hands of God,” Holness said.

Hurricane Beryl, currently active in the Gulf of Mexico, is a long-lived tropical cyclone. It marks the second named storm, first hurricane, and first major hurricane of the 2024 Atlantic season. It is also the earliest-recorded Category 5 Atlantic hurricane. Alongside Jamaica, other affected areas include Puerto Rico, Barbados, Trinidad and Tobago, and the Windward Islands.
