Virginia State Parks announces return of Adventure Series for its 8th year



RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — Virginia State Parks recently announced that its multi-sport race Adventure Series is coming back in 2025 for its eighth year.

According to a recent release, the event will kick off on March 8 and plans to feature around 20 different sports races that will take place across 11 different state parks throughout the year. People will get the chance to participate in triathlons, mountain biking races and more.

Dominion Energy is presenting the Adventure Series this year, and those who have attended the event before may see some familiar races, including the Tour de Pocahontas and the New River Trail Challenge.

There are also several changes coming to the series, such as the new Seven Bends Aquablaze race at Seven Bends State Park which combines running and kayaking. People can also expect updates to distances, scoring and difficulty levels of the races.

Those in the Central Virginia region will have several relatively close race options to participate in:

  • Adventure Races
    • March 8 — Frozen Foot at Pocahontas State Park
    • April 27 — Spring Bloom Adventure Race at York River State Park
  • Bike
    • March 15 — Tour de Pocahontas at Pocahontas State Park
    • June 14 — Poca Go! at Pocahontas State Park
    • Aug. 3 — Guts, Gravel, Glory at Pocahontas State Park
  • Running
    • June 1 — Taskinas Creek Half Marathon at York River State Park
    • Sept. 20 — Paw Paw 5 and 10-Miler at Powhatan State Park
    • Oct. 5 — Pocahontas Trail Festival at Pocahontas State Park
