RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — The killer of Richmond’s beloved “Hollywood Buck” has pleaded guilty to multiple charges related to the act, as well as others in connection to the illegal killings of other deer.
According to the Richmond Commonwealth’s Attorney Office, 36-year-old Jason Walters has pleaded guilty to 20 charges.
Walters will begin serving a four-month active sentence later in August, with an additional 80 months of suspended jail time.
The Commonwealth’s Attorney said Walters is prohibited from getting a hunter’s license for 100 years with 75 years suspended, for an active license prohibition of 25 years.
Walters has also been ordered to pay a restitution of $11,000 to the Virginia Department of Wildlife Resources. In addition, he must pay fines for hunting infractions totaling $2,050.
Walters is also barred from Hollywood Cemetery and surrounding areas, according to authorities.
Walters pleaded guilty to the following charges:
- Two counts of trespassing to hunt, fish or trap
- Three counts of killing a deer and exceeding bag limit
- One count of trespassing after forbidden
- One count of earning a buck
- One count of validating tags and reporting
- Three counts of unlawful hunting of a wild animal
- Four counts of dumping trash on a highway or private property
- Two counts of failing to report, a hunting regulation
- Three counts of validating tag, a hunting regulation
The “Hollywood Buck” was a deer named for its frequent sightings in Oregon Hill’s Hollywood Cemetery. The deer was admired by many for its unusual size and unique antlers that made it easy to spot, according to the Department of Wildlife Resources.
